Dogfighting

Dogfighting is a brutal activity. It is most often practiced with pitbulls, and pitbulls have a bad rap, so I'll start off with debunking most of it. "Pit bulls are the most abused, neglected, abandoned, tortured dogs in the world. Yet they forgive." -Tia, a dog rescuer in New Orleans.  They are sweet dogs, unless trained to be otherwise. Pit bulls are some of the sweetest dogs you could own. Sure, they can be huge, and slobbery, but they're just full of love.  Dogfighting: Dogfighting is a "sport" in which two dogs are trained to fight, and are put in a ring to fight each other for human "enjoyment". I am not sure how one enjoys this. During training, timid dogs are often used as bait. Like a poor dog named Cadence. She's a pit bull, and when she was rescued, she snuggled up to her rescuers and gave them puppy hugs. See what I mean about them forgiving us? Some people don't deserve the bundle of joy that is a dog.  I think that's it-a

Poaching Part One

Poaching is a gigantic problem in many places around the world. I'm going to start with Africa and ivory, since I can't cover it all in one blog post. Let's get started. Ivory Ok, first off, ivory is made of keratin. Sound familiar? Well, that's because it's what your hair AND fingernails are made of. And turtle shells, bird beaks and talons, hooves, claws, pangolin scales, porcupine quills, all of that. And....horns and tusks. Why on earth are we killing rhinos and elephants for something that is the same chemical makeup as our hair and nails? Because of traditional medicine. I am NOT saying that tradition is bad, I am saying that it does in no way justify killing other animals for something that really doesn't work anyway. If you need a dietary supplement, just get it from the pharmacy. Please?  And, ivory sculptures and jewelry look the same as plaster, pretty much. And the plaster is WAY cheaper. Rhino ivory is now more expensive than diamonds or gold. That

Birds

Hey everyone!! Today I am writing about abused birds.  First off, PLEASE donate to my fundraiser . I am really hopeful that we can get there and really help out these poor birds who don't have homes. No laws are in place to protect them, so we really need to get that word out. If you have a social media account or a blog(Hi fellow bloggers!), please share or repost that link. The publicity would really help me out.  Why, you ask, should I donate? Here's why. These birds are kept in cages. A vet who went in described it as a "concentration camp". There are pictures. Yet, despite this evidence, this breeding facility is still open in Washington State. These facilities are like puppy mills; forcing animals to breed against their will, and continuing to sell them just for money. This is in no way a good practice and it needs to be stopped. I really hope you can help me save these birds!  -AnimalFanatic  :)

Special Edition: Pets Around the Holidays!

Hi everyone!! Happy Holidays! So, many holidays are coming up, and all of them have their own great traditions. Sometimes, though, those traditions aren't great for pets. Here's a rundown of the things that might be a problem. Foods Decorations Flowers Presents-Wrappings and the presents themselves Snow(If you get snow) A tree(if you have one)  All of these things can be a really fun part of your tradition, and I don't want you to have to give those things up!  Ok. Dogs and cats are allergic to, or love but can't handle many things we have around the house. Here's a list. Chocolate Onions/Shallots/Green Onions/etc. Grapes Raw Chicken/Turkey Bones Poinsettias Wrapping Paper Christmas Trees(solely cats-dogs are okay, so long as they won't knock the tree over or break anything) Lactose That last one may have you confused. Most dogs and cats are actually lactose intolerant. So, please, no ice cream, scalloped potatoes, pudding, all of that. Maybe your cat or dog is

SeaWorld Should End Now!

Image
Hey everyone! Today I am going to talk(type?) about SeaWorld. No one should have the right to imprison orcas, dolphins, and other aquatic animals in tiny cages. Below are all of the reasons why you can't do this. The Tanks Are Miniscule! The largest  tank at SeaWorld Orlando is 40 feet deep. Sounds great...Until you remember that that is the LENGTH OF THE ORCA!!! You shouldn't keep a goldfish in a tank 2 inches deep, so why would you do the equivalent for an orca? Also, there are some really 'wonderful'*cough, nope, cough* size comparisons to the tanks. Ok, look at this photo. The parking lots are bigger than the orca tank! Really, SeaWorld? Really? Credit to PETA for the photo-and all others that come after. One city block is twice the length of one orca tank. ONE! And it's the LARGEST one!! The distance that toddlers walk in a day is about 2.6 miles. That dwarfs the tanks, being 13, 558 feet farther than a tank. A Polar Bear May Have Died Because They Ju

Special Edition: Family Dogs

Image
Hi! I am going to share some of my family member's dogs below, I hope you enjoy hearing about them! Nala: "She is a very loud yawner." "Her breed is golden lab x fox terrier." "She loves to play a lot, and she also loves to be lazy in the mornings. " "She enjoys watermelon, carrots and apples but does not care for cucumber peel." Buddy Chandramowle:   " Very Playful & was vigilant about his surroundings;Liked to travel in a car-took him all over Europe driving."  " I trusted his judgement about people-He was always more protective of me when he did not trust somebody[.]" German Shepherd Maxwell: "[H] e is a shih tzu crossed with American spaniel and Tibetan spaniel. " "He was a stray and we adopted him from a local animal shelter who found him near a marina.  The veterinarian who works with the shelter guessed his age based on his teeth and he was found to be about 2 or 3 when we adopted him. Red Pandas!

Image
Hi everyone! Today we are going to talk about red pandas! Red pandas are adorable(yay!) & endangered(no!). So, we need to support them. Today here to help me on this topic, Red Panda Network, RPN! Here  is the link to their website. They do great work, and I have adopted a red panda through their project.       I have completed their Red Panda Ranger challenges as well. They have multiple things going on right now, including their always going campaign for #NoPandaPets. Sadly, people try to get red pandas as pets. Or, they try to get fur, teeth, meat....Yeah, I'll stop there. You get the idea.  Red pandas deserve to be saved! Continuing with some facts. Alright, first off, the craziness. Red pandas are technically carnivores, but 95% of their diet is bamboo! I don't know how or why. The other 5% is berries, eggs, and insects. Secondly, they eat up to 30% of their body weight in bamboo every day! That would be like if you were 90 lbs, you would eat around 30 lbs of food eve
